Snoring is responsible for countless hours of lost sleep. It not only affects men and women who are sleeping in the same bed but it may also affect the whole household as the loud snoring of a person in the dead of the night when all is quiet can resound and resonate through the whole house and on occasions in apartment blocks even into the neighbors space.
The problem of snoring is well beyond one of simple annoyance and frustration of the snoring sound that emanates. It is also a symptom of a more serious problem... that of sleep apnea where the sleeping person momentarily stops breathing. If you live with a snorer then you will have most certainly witnessed this effect.
The sleeping person falls into a rhythm of snoring with loud intakes of breath. Occasionally the snorer will catch their breath and for a moment will stop breathing... This silence is the beginning of sleep apnea.

If the snoring is affecting the sleep patterns of the snorer or of their family then there are many methods that can be investigated.
In some cases the snoring is a result of a simple allergy to the pillow itself... having something that you are allergic to in the pillow may cause an excess of mucus and that in turn will block the throat whilst sleeping and cause the snoring. This occurs to many people for many years before they even realize that they have the problem. On some occasions it is a dietary problem. This can be monitored with the snoring person to see if the snoring changes at all after having consumed certain food or drink.
There are many natural remedies also that are said to be able to curb snoring. Some of them help the snorer to relax the muscles involved in snoring, and others address the alleged problems that cause snoring in the first place such as being overweight or inactive.
Some people may snore more on their backs whilst other will snore more on their sides. By adjusting the bed and the pillows one can often adjust the snoring too.
