Milk can naturally produce mucus in some people. There is an old saying that if you have a cold then you shouldn’t drink milk as it increases the mucus already there and can block up the person making their congestion even worse than before. The nose becomes blocked and the chest starts to feel congested and breathing difficulties will start. Based on the above, there are those that abstain from consuming dairy produce before going to bed. It is generally thought that a glass of warm milk will help you fall asleep. This may be true but the milk will also increase the mucus and as you sleep the mucus will line the throat causing a narrowing of the airways and hence snoring will most likely ensue.
It is worth observing for a few weeks your intake of dairy produce. See if you drink milk or have cheese when you eat late, try not having any dairy produce at all after mid-day. Notice if it changes your snoring pattern at all. If you find that it alleviates it a little then you might want to consider reducing your intake more or completely for a short time to see if the snoring can be stopped. If this is the case then once the snoring is under control then you may begin to consume dairy products again little by little (and earlier on in the day) to see exactly how much you will be able to have before the snoring returns. If you find that your snoring only stops if you drastically cut down your intake of dairy products then you will have to look for alternatives sources of calcium and vitamin B12. You should consult your doctor about this.
